Practice areas
What kind of claim do you have?
Not every claim starts with an accident, and different claims follow different paths. Find the situation closest to yours to see how the process works and what to expect.
Car and motor vehicle accidents
Claims against the at-fault driver and their insurer after a car, truck, motorcycle, pedestrian or cyclist crash.
Accident benefits
Benefits from your own insurer following a motor vehicle accident, available to you regardless of who caused it.
Catastrophic impairment
Accident benefit claims for the most serious injuries, which unlock significantly higher benefit limits and support.
Long-term disability
Claims against your disability insurer when long-term benefits have been denied, stopped or unfairly cut off.
Slip, trip and fall
Injuries on unsafe or poorly maintained premises, brought against the property owner or occupier responsible.
Medical malpractice
Claims against doctors, hospitals and other health care providers for harm caused by negligent medical care.
Product liability
Claims against manufacturers and distributors for injuries caused by unsafe, defective or poorly labelled products.
Police misconduct
Claims involving excessive force, wrongful arrest or detention, and assault or battery by those in authority.
Assault
Injuries from an assault, brought against the person responsible and any business or institution whose negligence allowed it.
Civil sexual assault
Confidential claims for survivors, handled separately from the criminal process. Ontario sets no limitation period.
After an injury
What should I do after an injury?
What you do in the first few days can shape both your recovery and your claim. A short guide:
- Get medical care first. Even injuries that feel minor can develop over the following days, and early treatment creates the record that ties your injury to what happened.
- Tell your own insurer after a motor vehicle accident, and do it promptly. Some of the deadlines that follow a crash are measured in days, not months.
- Capture the details while your memory is fresh, photos of the scene and your injuries, and the names and numbers of anyone who saw what happened.
- Hold on to the paperwork, including receipts, prescriptions, and every letter or denial notice the insurer sends you.
- Pause before you sign or record anything. You have the right to get legal information before giving an adjuster a recorded statement or signing a release.
Our approach
How we handle a case
We prepare every file properly from the start, deal with the insurers, and keep you informed in plain language. You focus on your recovery while we handle the rest.
First conversation. Free and without obligation. We listen, ask questions, and tell you honestly whether we think you have a claim worth pursuing.
Opening the file. We handle the notices and applications and take the insurer correspondence off your plate.
Building the evidence. We work with your treating doctors and, where a case calls for it, retain qualified specialists to document your injuries and losses.
Advancing your claim. We move your case forward on every track that applies, keeping the deadlines and the strategy aligned.
Resolution. Most claims settle. We prepare every file as though it will go to trial, so the case is ready if a fair settlement is not offered.
Staying in touch. You will have a clear point of contact, plain-language updates, and your calls returned.
Why us
The informed choice for personal injury claims
Some firms compete on advertising volume, and some hand you off to a case manager you never chose. We work differently. At Antonov Kaganovich LLP, the lawyer you speak with is the lawyer who handles your file, from that first phone call through to the day your claim resolves.
What that means in practice is simple: someone who takes the time to understand what happened, explains the road ahead in language that makes sense, and prepares your case thoroughly rather than rushing it toward a quick settlement. And because recovery matters as much as the claim, we work alongside your treating doctors and rehabilitation partners in the community while we deal with the legal side.
Working with us
Meeting with us in Mississauga
We regularly meet clients across Mississauga, in person in the area as well as by phone or video, and we visit clients at home or in hospital when an injury makes travelling difficult. Whether you are near Square One, along the Lakeshore, or anywhere across the city, getting started usually begins with a simple phone call.
If your claim leads to a lawsuit, it helps to know that Mississauga does not have its own Superior Court. Civil personal injury cases for Peel Region are generally heard at the A. Grenville and William Davis Courthouse on Hurontario Street in Brampton. That is a detail many people are surprised by, and it is one of the things we take care of so you do not have to.
One local point worth flagging: if your injury involved a poorly maintained road or sidewalk owned by the City of Mississauga, a short written-notice deadline can apply, separate from the general limitation period. Missing it can affect a claim, which is one more reason it helps to speak with a lawyer early. Throughout, we coordinate with your treating doctors and our rehabilitation partners in the area, so you can concentrate on getting better.
FAQ
Common questions
Do I need to travel to meet you?
Not necessarily. We meet clients in Mississauga in person, and we also offer phone and video consultations and home or hospital visits when travelling is difficult. Call (416) 477-5956 to arrange whatever works best for you.
Do I have a case?
It depends on whether someone else's negligence caused your injury, and on how serious the injury is. The only reliable way to find out is to have someone review the facts, and that review is free.
What will it cost to hire you?
The first consultation is free. After that we work on a contingency-fee basis, so you do not pay legal fees unless your claim succeeds. The percentage is agreed in writing before we begin, and the agreement also explains how disbursements are handled.
Is there a time limit on making a claim?
Yes. Ontario sets time limits on injury claims, and a few of them are much shorter than the general rule, some counted in days. The limit depends on the type of claim and your dates, so it is best to ask early.
